Arcades have been around forever and virtual reality has existed for decades but only recently have the two really begun to hit it off. VR games and devices have existed in the past but with a new focus on improving the user’s game play experience the demand for access to high quality VR has increased. With devices like the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Sony PlayStation VR ranging from $400-$800, as well as an added cost for additional accessories like motion controllers, not everyone can afford to have their own virtual reality setup at home. Luckily, there are tons of virtual reality arcades popping up all over the place, providing access to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in a new and amazing VR world. Check out some of these virtual reality arcades in and around Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island.

Sandbox VR

Sandbox VR Vancouver

Sandbox VR, located in Richmond, uses the latest VR hardware, real-time motion capture, and premium quality content to provide the most immersive VR experience possible. Their game play rooms can accommodate anywhere from 2-6 people but for large events you can book multiple rooms or arrange to take over their entire space. Their current virtual reality experiences include Amber Sky 2088, Deadwood Mansion, and Curse of Davy Jones, with Star Trek: Discovery and Unbound Fighting League coming soon. They make all over their own games and adventures, each one transforming you into a character within that world using their full body motion capture technology.

Breakout VR

Breakout VR Vancouver

Breakout VR is another fully immersive virtual reality arcade located in Richmond. You’ll have your choice between the HTC Vive headset, Oculus Rift headset, and Virtuix Omni motion platform, allowing you to experience virtual reality any way you’d like. The motion tracking and room-scale technology means you can move around freely and interact with the virtual reality environment. There are a ton of different games to choose from, including first person shooters, simulations, horror, and multi-player games.

Evolve Virtual Reality

Evolve VR Vancouver

Located on West Broadway in Vancouver, Evolve Virtual Reality offers single person game play stations using an HTC Vive wireless headset, two hand controllers, and the gaming console. The game stations are very affordable and can be rented for $35/hour, allowing you and a couple friends plenty of time pass the VR gear around.  There are over 50 games to choose from, a spectating area within each station for friends to watch, and a lounge to hang out in, and a classic arcade with over 750 game titles. You can also hop into one of the racing simulators and speed around on your own or race a friend.

VRKADE

VRKADE Abbotsford

VRKADE, located in Abbotsford, houses sixteen different game bays to play out of and a comfortable WiFi equipped lounge to relax in. If you have a Steam account with a library of VR games you can login and play your own games. Come with friends and you can all be put in the same game for a multiplayer experience. VRKADE also offers custom educational field trips designed to help students visualize and understand complex subjects with the help of an immersive virtual reality world.

You can head to Gobo VR in Surrey if you’re looking for a wide range of virtual reality games. They offer single person VR booths which use HTC Vive, VR goggles, and a pair of controllers that will allow you to interact with your VR environment. These booths can support multiplayer experiences when you rent multiple booths. You can also check out the arena scale VR that allows you to walk around in an open space with advanced wireless hardware. For the most realistic driving and racing games, try the VR car simulator with its full motion platform.

Vic VR

Vic VR Victoria

Vic VR is a virtual reality arcade in Victoria, on Vancouver Island. They currently feature 4 HTC Vives and 2 Oculus Rifts, which can be all be linked into the same VR game to allow for a multiplayer experience of up to 6 people. They also offer a mobile setup using an MSI VR One which can power the Vive and be set up for events or workshops.

VRKADE Nanaimo

Located in Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island, there is another VRKADE and this particular location features 10 gaming bays with 6 more bays on the way. The staff at this location are happy to host any corporate, team, or birthday event at a group discount rate with advance booking. They also offer a party room you can rent where you can hang out, play old school video games, eat birthday cake, and host your party.

Another Vancouver Island VR arcade worth checking out is Infusion Edutainment. Located in downtown Victoria, they offer shooting, driving, studying, and exercising experiences as well as a virtual reality escape room. You can come on your own, as a group, or book their space for a party or special event. Their game catalogue features over 200 VR experiences and games using HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive Pro.

Virtual Land

Virtual Land Tsawwassen

Virtual Land, located inside Tsawwassen Mills, offers multiple types of virtual reality game play experiences, including their 3-Seat 9D VR Cinema, V-Zone VR Paradise, Hunting Hero, and Racing Car. They also offer a Baby Bear virtual reality experience designed specifically for kids. Their 9D VR game list includes titles such as Jurassic Park, Sea Adventure, and Zombie Castle.

VR Funtastic World

VR Funtastic World can be found on the second floor of the Kid’s Market in Granville Island. They offer games, rides, movies, and also have interactive shooting games. The experiences are usually about 3-8 minutes and they offer two kinds of rides which sit you inside a giant VR egg. They also now have a new double egg ride for a more exciting experience. They offer a ton of different game titles including VR Funhouse, Minecraft, or Vacate the Room.
