Introducing Dirty Apron’s Demo & Dine Series: Friday Night Bites
If you are looking for something unique to do on a Friday night or if you want to dazzle your date with something that is completely different from traditional date night ideas, the Dirty Apron Cooking School in Vancouver, BC provides the perfect experience. This Gastown-based cooking school has created a new class that offers those who love food (and those who want to learn more about cooking) an excellent opportunity to learn a few tricks of the trade when it comes to cooking a world-class meal.
The Dirty Apron Cooking School has expanded its class curriculum with a new class called Friday Night Bites, which is a ‘Demo & Dine’ style series. Chef David Robertson provides first-rate cooking experience where diners can learn about how to cook various appetizers, side dishes, mains, and desserts. No aprons are required in this class. You just sit back and absorb all the tips Chef Robertson offers, and then enjoy the dishes after they have been prepared. Sounds like fun doesn’t it? You get to learn new cooking techniques, enjoy mouth-watering cuisine, and learn a few kitchen tricks along the way.
The class is two hours long and guests enjoy a full four-course tasting meal. The course themes are rotated every month so you can return and learn new dishes. Guests pay $95 per class and the classes that are offered include A Culinary Tour of Hawaii, Around the World! Carnivore Classics, a Late Summer Feast, Contemporary Comfort Food and Seafood Extravaganza.
Chef David Robertson takes his students through each course and carefully explains each step so that everyone gets a solid understanding of how to create and cook each dish. After each dish is demonstrated, guests are served a portion along with a glass of red or white wine. You will watch, listen, chat with your neighbours, and indulge in delicious food the entire night!
Our Experience at the Dirty Apron
My mother and I went to this lovely event. It was such a good time, provided time for mother-daughter bonding and Chef David Robertson is very entertaining. It is best to arrive 15 minutes before your class so you can settle in and grab a seat up close. We were lucky enough to get seats right up front. We were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine and we were ready to learn something new. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, and everything was presented perfectly.
We took the Seafood Extravaganza class, which consists of learning how to make Lemon Prawn Risotto, Maple Seared Scallops with warm Chorizo and Kalamata Ragout, Pea Coulis, pan roasted Halibut, sautéed Spinach, crushed Fingerling Potatoes and charred Tomato Vinaigrette. The dessert that was demonstrated was Lemon Panna Cotta and candied Lemon Zest.
It was an excellent meal and every dish was creatively displayed and full of flavour. Chef Robertson really knows his way around a kitchen and his humour and positive attitude makes the entire experience fun up until the very end. We loved the fact that we could learn, eat fabulous dishes, have a few laughs, and drink wine at the same time. We learned a few interesting tips for the kitchen that we would have never even thought of. Overall, it was a fantastic Friday night out and we will do it again!
