A Memorable Experience at the Fashionable Loden Hotel
As we drove up to the Loden Boutique Hotel we could only but admire the chic, attractive entrance that was lit up and enhanced with warm welcoming lights.
We were pleasantly greeted by a kind valet attendant and asked about our day and if we were coming in from out of town.
We approached the lobby, which was designed with a chic style in mind, not to mention the modern furniture and trimmings.
We were pleased to see the number of awards that the Loden Hotel has won in the past and as we were checking in we admired the stylish lobby from all angles.
We were given a Signature room with a king size bed, sitting area, floor to ceiling windows, deep bathtub, luxury shower and all the necessary room amenities to make our stay a comfortable one. We were greeted with an in-room treat of mixed nuts and sparkling water, which brought a smile to my face. (Nut lover here!) All guests like to feel special and if a hotel goes out of their way to add that extra touch, they have a thumbs up in my book.
The room had all the right features—such as a 42″ flat screen TV, comfy bathrobes and slippers, in-room safe, corner couch, in-suite yoga props and dedicated yoga channel, goose down duvet, cocktail and snack bar, Nintendo Wii and more! (If you’re traveling with kids, you can keep them distracted while you relax in a hot tub.)
The mix of decadent colours within the room and portrayed through the bedding, furniture and the carpet invoked thoughts of chocolate fondue, caramels and hazelnuts. The design was appealing to the eye, especially to anyone with a sweet tooth. The Signature room was immaculate, well-furnished and cozy, and definitely worth the stay.
After getting ready for the night, we headed downstairs where we were greeted yet again with smiles by the front desk staff. We were taken to our table in the Tableau Bar & Bistro restaurant and our server immediately attended to us. The menu is absolutely mouth-watering and I wasn’t sure where to begin. I took in the buzzing vibe of the restaurant on a Friday night and it was super busy! My advice would be to book in advance for a Friday night seating. After checking out the paintings on the walls and our surroundings, we began to focus on what we would like to sample while visiting.
My beau Shaun and I decided to sample a few appetizers, share some of our mains and then finish with a decadent French-inspired dessert. (This restaurant is also perfect for a romantic date.) Our appetizers included the French Onion Soup with Gruyere cheese and Croutons and Mushrooms on Toast (highly recommended!) Both were superb and I could definitely imagine bolting to Tableau on a colder, rainy Vancouver day, to warm up with the French Onion Soup.
The creamy Mushrooms on Toast was delicious and you can guarantee that plate was gobbled up without hesitation. We also tried some of the flat bread which was toasted perfect with all the right spices and ingredients. They offer a few different choices of flat bread and if you like pizza, I have no doubt you will enjoy it.
While Shaun sampled some of the finest Belgium beer known as Maredsous Abby Dark, I enjoyed the non-alcoholic spritzers and refreshing drinks such as the Seasonal Spritzer and the Spiced Apple Mule. They were so refreshing after a hot soup and definitely work as thirst quenchers!
For our mains, I chose the Gnocchi infused with mushrooms, basil cream sauce and toasted tomatoes, while Shaun chose the current market special, the Halibut collar that came with pan roasted vegetables and scrumptious scallops (see below).
Both dishes had an attractive presentation when they arrived at our table and we were impressed with the care and creativity that was put into each dish.
Our dessert consisted of the sinful Creme Brulee with ginger vanilla-scented custard and caramelized sugar and the sugary-sweet Vanilla Ice Cream Sundae (sorry, no picture!) complete with chocolate and caramel syrup, candied nuts and whip cream. C’est la vie!
In Conclusion: A Final Thought
I have only great things to say about the Loden Hotel and the Tableau Bar & Bistro. They have a reputation for their hospitality excellence and we witnessed it throughout our visit. We were wined and dined, well taken care of and the staff were attentive and knowledgeable. I would recommend this hotel and the restaurant to any of my visiting friends and family and I personally hope to visit again in the near future. After all, this is Vancouver and the rain will return, therefore, I’ll need a cozy night sleep and a bowl of taste bud tingling warm French Onion Soup. Oh là là!
