America, what a country!

We need a strong United States of America. I don’t always agree with everything that country does, but a strong America is good for the entire planet’s economy. Perhaps not the way it should be, but it is a reality. The stock market has been bouncing up and down like a George Bush bobble-head and until the bailout takes effect you can expect it to continue its yo-yo activity.

The House of Representatives has passed the re-worked financial bailout package with the final vote showing 263 in favor and 171 against-a 92-vote margin.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few days, months and years. Don’t kid yourself-the States are a mess but America loves the big comeback. Sylvester Stallone made millions at the box office because of it. Although, I’m still waiting for Whitney Houston’s return…

Anyways, the news from down south isn’t helping local homebuyers and sellers feel any better. Keep in mind it is apples and oranges. That’s not to say our economy and housing market is nothing but rainbows and butterflies, but you can’t compare the two countries.

For example, in Buckeye, Arizona, which is just west of Phoenix, a 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom, 1852 square-foot home with a two-car garage is on the market for $79,900.

Do you know where you have to go to find those kinds of prices in Canada? The States, of course!

Canadians have been flooding into the U. S. housing market and have replaced Mexicans as the top foreign buyers of U.S. properties. Nearly a quarter of foreign buyers of U.S. properties are from Canada, with 69 percent of Canadian buyers purchasing their U.S. homes-usually condos-with cash. A total of 60 percent of homes bought by Canadians were in Florida and Arizona.

I keep in touch with agents in Florida and the rest of the States. If owning property in the States is something you are interested in, give me a call and let’s talk.
