The Westin Grand Vancouver Review

” Convenient, Comfortable and Cozy for Families Visiting Vancouver “

An Introduction

The all-suite Westin Grand located in the bustling city of downtown Vancouver, British Columbia offers a fantastic stay for families with young children. While the hotel may appear more like an executive hotel designed for business travellers from the outside, the inside is cozy, friendly and warm for families seeking an escape in Vancouver.

With a convenient location on the famous shopping strip known as Robson Street and on the edge of trendy Yaletown,  families are close to numerous shopping opportunities, restaurants, entertainment and loads of attractions. Visiting families and local families alike have the opportunity to enjoy a comfortable nights stay and deluxe amenities with Westin’s Heavenly Bed® and Heavenly Bath® features, as well as extra family-friendly services like cribs, kitchenettes, refrigerators, personalized services and more.

Take advantage of casual on-site dining at Hidden Restaurant and Lounge, workout at the WestinWORKOUT® Fitness Studio, relax tired muscles in a warm whirlpool on the stunning Garden Terrace and enjoy staying at an environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly hotel.

Our Personal Guest Experience

When we arrived at the hotel, the valet service was helpful and the staff was exceptionally friendly. We had a lot to take out of the trunk including our 9 month old son’s stroller and the valet staff quickly assisted us. We were kindly directed to the lobby a few floors up. Upon entering the lobby I was pleasantly surprised at just how cozy it looked with its warm Christmas decorations and lighting.  I was under the impression that it would be more business-like and designed for executives, but I was completely wrong on that one. My husband sat and relaxed with our son as I checked us in. Check in was extremely smooth and the front desk staff was professional and answered all of my questions about the hotel and services.

We stayed in a city view suite that was perfect for us. We were provided with a crib, refrigerator and a kitchenette which was a great help for us because we had to store our son’s food and bottles of formula. Our view of the city was spectacular and was continuous throughout our suite. I strongly recommend paying a little extra for a city view suite so you can enjoy a fantastic sunset over the city and take in glorious mountain views. As you can see above, our son loved the view too and couldn’t get enough of staring out at the buildings and traffic below.

The room amenities were fantastic with data ports, a hair dryer, vanity mirrors, rain shower head, a digital safe, a large deep bath, flat screen TVs and more. We also had a small balcony but we didn’t spend much time on it due to colder weather.  I can imagine it is a fantastic bonus in the summer months.

The Westin’s Heavenly Bed® was dreamy. I haven’t slept that good in a hotel in a very long time, so the soft bedding and “sink-into” pillows were a blessing. Our son could crawl across the carpeted floor and explore with ease and his crib was comfortable and safe for him when he slept. The kitchenette area was ideal as it had a microwave, sink, cutlery, mugs, glasses and dishes for easy dining. There was also a coffee maker with Starbucks coffee available for those who need a coffee fix in the morning. We were very happy with our accommodations and when we had a request, we were taken care of within minutes.

We dined at Hidden Tasting Bar and Social Lounge the following night and enjoyed some tasty dishes that were plated so beautifully, we had to take a few photos. Our appetizers included the Crab Cakes with pickled zucchini, avocado mousse, mango coulis and the Crispy Tuna Sushi Roll with Nori aioli, red and green tobiko, avocadoes cucumbers, albacore tuna, sweet soy, and pickled ginger. We were ‘head over heels’ in love with the sushi roll as the flavours were intense and the level of “crisp” was spot on.

My husband chose the Crispy Pork Guanciale (pork cheeks) which included white bean puree, wilted arugula, herb crusted pork guanciale, maple infused apple gastrique and pumpkin seed spatzle. As we always share and sample each other’s dishes, I really liked the ingredients and flavours in this dish. The only issue with the dish was that it was very small. Make sure you have an appetizer before this dish if you are really hungry. I love prosciutto so I ordered the Prosciutto Wrapped Chicken Breast which is a chicken breast filled with basil, mozzarella creamy herb polenta, grilled vegetable pave charred tomatoes and olive relish. I really enjoyed mine and the toppings were zesty and sweet at the same time. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the cheese filling was heavenly.

We shared the Classic NY Cheesecake with strawberry rhubarb compote which looked too pretty to sink our teeth into. (see below) Or course, we dove in anyways and this decadent plate was cleared within minutes. Again, beautifully plated and designed, and the strawberry rhubarb compote was the perfect touch. There is also a “fitness” menu for those who want to attempt to eat a bit healthier during their stay. I found this a fantastic addition to the menu and very helpful for those who are watching their weight.

The restaurant staff were great, happy and helpful and one of the front desk ladies came over with a tiny rubber ducky for our son when he started getting fussy.  It was a life saver to two exhausted parents! All in all, our dining experience at the on-site Hidden Restaurant and Tasting Bar and Social Lounge was a pleasant one.

In a Nutshell

The Westin Grand was an excellent stay for our small family and even though it may seem like a hotel for business executives and couples, it is for families as well. With an on-site pool, phenomenal city views and on-site dining, any family can enjoy comfortable nights of sleep and fun-filled days of activities, shopping and nearby attractions. I found the Westin Grand to be inviting and convenient, perfect for families and extremely comfortable with its deluxe room amenities.
