It can be hard enough to find a good brunch spot without worrying about having something nice to look at while you eat, so the

Autumn Brook Gallery (http://www.autumnbrook.ca/) has solved that nicely by putting in a kitchen and serving brunch in the front part of their gallery. Sun was streaming in the window as my friend and I considered frittatas, paninis and brunch salads before settling on a delicious Brioche French Toast with blueberry compote ($11) for me and an equally delectable Eggs Florentine ($13) for her.

Her benny came with smoked salmon as well as spinach, which surprised me for a Florentine, but of course didn’t raise any complaints, and both of our breakfasts came with potatoes and an inspired brunch salad that had fresh berries, nuts, artichokes, grapes and starfruit in with the requisite lettuce. Perhaps cooking in front of a gallery full of art lends some inspiration to the chef.

The Autumn Brook Gallery has been operating in that space as a gallery for some time now, but with the large floor plan and proximity to the entrance of Granville Island, it’s nice to see them mixing it up a little bit. Coming up this month will also be a wine and appetizer bar, as well as a monthly Latin dance evening (www.latinfunkdance.com), which will only ensure more eyes on the art and more happy diners.

The art changes regularly, but this (http://www.autumnbrook.ca/online.gallery.1.htm) is what’s hanging at the moment.
