Summer’s Hottest Clubs

shutterstock_25884595This summer in Vancouver the best night-time hangouts are as sizzling as the long-awaited daytime temperatures. Whether you’re looking to dance the night away, lounge, or just kick back and take in the local nightlife, there is a venue for everyone, and for every kind of party. Vancouver View asked a few local experts about their top five club hotspots to visit this summer.

1. What: Pop Opera
Where: 686 West Hastings
Call: 604-633-3988

One of Vancouver’s most talked about (and newly renovated) party places is Pop Opera. Sporting a black and white décor with a mix of vintage and New Age design, Pop Opera features three VIP seating areas with a sunken dance floor and bottle service to keep the party popping all night. DJ Flip Out is one of the music masters that have helped make this one of the most popular party places on the weekend.

“Pop Opera is the nicest looking club in the city,” he says, “including the staff. Plenty of dance floor, comfortable deejay booth, lots of seating for your bottle-poppin’ par-tays! And two rooms divided by glass. And vintage boom boxes and televisions as décor. Really nice place. The deejays are okay too, I guess.”

2. What: Elixir Restaurant/Opus Hotel in Yaletown
Where: 350 Davie Street
Call: 604-642-0557

One of the poshest and most comfortable atmospheres in the city can be found at the world-renowned Opus Hotel Vancouver and its Elixir Restaurant. It is truly a “must-see-and-be-seen-at” kind of place. What sets the mood? State-of-the-art lighting, designer furniture and shimmer screens that are set up for a sophisticated look to accommodate a style-savvy crowd.

The cocktails are innovative and the bottle and wine service is considered amongst the best in town. Opus Bar was recently voted “Vancouver’s Most Popular Nightspot” by Zagat and is regarded as a top Vancouver lounge and bar and one of the hottest locations in Yaletown.

3. What: Celebrities
Where: 1022 Davie Street
Call: 604-681-6180

A landmark feature on colourful Davie Street is a club called Celebrities. Virgin Radio announcer and event manager for Utherverse Digital, Barbara Beam, says, “My favourite spot to dance the night away is Celebrities Night Club! They have awesome dance music, and for a girl, you don’t have to worry about getting hassled by silly Chachis. It always [has] a fun vibe and there’s tons of eye candy. So what if those boys are gay—you don’t have to worry about them pinching your bum, unless you want them to!”

Celebrities Night Club is one of the largest gay and lesbian night clubs in Canada, and is known to feature some of the biggest-name deejays and performers from all around the world. The club utilizes amazing new technology to provide the best lighting and sound and an unforgettable visual experience on two large holographic screens. There are two levels, with the main floor being home to the massive dance floor, a ground-level DJ booth, a VIP section, and two full-service bars. Upstairs is a more private escape where people can relax and enjoy tantalizing views of the performers and dancers below.

4. What: RED² Tapas Lounge
Where: 1216 Granville Street
Call: 604-40-VODKA

If you are looking for incredible appies, the best vodka bar in town and great house music, then this is your place. One of the most enduringly popular faces at the turntables during some of Vancouver’s hottest events is DJ Leanne. “After playing the larger nightclubs for years in Vancity I have a new appreciation for the chilled out, ‘sip and shake’ clubs/lounges,” she says. “You can chat and get your dance on in a modern, yet ultra-cozy atmosphere.”

RED² Tapas Lounge is Vancouver’s first vodka bar with the largest selection of vodkas in town and, of course, Russian-themed vodka cocktails and martinis. It features share plates from Eastern Europe with regional ingredients, all served up in a sleek room that some describe as having an “industrial/funky” feel.

5. What: Caprice
Where: 967 Granville Street
Call: 604-681-2114 or 3189

A nightclub and lounge in one, Caprice is a popular spot for various happenings throughout the year, including fashion events, fundraisers and anything fun-related! Caprice features a large VIP seating area with bottle service, a spacious dance floor and seats around the bar…
