Our Personal Dining Experience
My husband Shaun and I visited the Fish Shack recently and we were very happy with our experience there. Trattoria Restaurant’s former Executive Chef Craig Schrerer, who is now the Fish Shack’s General Manager greeted us with warmth. It’s always nice to be remembered by name, and after tasting some of his fabulous dishes and desserts at Trattoria Restaurant in Burnaby months back, we were even more excited about what was to come.
We began our dining experience with a few drinks and took in our surroundings. Guinness was my husband’s drink of choice while mine was a nice glass of red, an Argentinean Malbec. We looked over the menu, which offered a nice selection of appetizers, from Kunafa Wrapped Tiger Prawns and Rock Crab Jalapeno Poppers to scrumptious Calamari and Steamers, including both mussels and clams.
The Rock Crab Jalapeno Poppers with cream cheese and chili dip were amazing, as were the crispy Calamari with cilantro dip and chillies. We loved the way the calamari had that perfect amount of crisp, yet it was also easy to chew. Both of these appetizers offered a variety of flavours, both spicy and sweet. What a great way to start the meal!
We then enjoyed some Steamers and we choose the ‘Bacon and Butter’ option off the menu, which included bacon, garlic, shallots and buttered leeks. They were so tasty, and the bacon and butter broth that we scooped up with each clam or mussel was like absolute comfort food.
My husband chose the two-piece Lingcod with kimchi-style coleslaw for his main course. He was delighted when his dish came to the table and he enjoyed every bite. I ordered the blackened California – Alaska Sockeye Salmon with patatas bravas and fried cauliflower. It was an excellent dish and I especially loved the way my salmon was cooked to perfection. The fried cauliflower was a nice touch as I had never tried it before. Everything was spiced perfectly and we finished our meal feeling completely satisfied, with no room for dessert. Happily full!
In a Nutshell
Everything was lovely and even though it was a short visit, we enjoyed our meals and visit thoroughly. We have already recommended this restaurant to family and friends and will be back again soon to sample some of the other attractive dishes on the menu.
And, if you have fish lovers in your life, you can also purchase Fish Shack gift cards for them, in plastic or e-purchase form! (I’ve already bought one for a friend 🙂 )
*Many thanks to Tara Armstrong of Glowbal Group and Craig Schrerer, General Manager of the Fish Shack for our wonderful dining experience.*
