Elephant and Castle: Celebrating Momhood with Great Friends
Looking for a place to enjoy drinks with you fellow mom gal pals? Are you a mom that needs a proper night out and escape from the regular routine of diapers, tantrums and play groups? Grab your mom friends and head over to the Elephant & Castle on Burrard Street for traditional English fare, decadent desserts, and full-bodied wines!
With new menus that offer a variety of burgers, salads, soups, snacks, mains and desserts, this English pub gives guests a chance to try a little bit of everything. The pub features some signature British dishes such as Bangers and Mash, Chicken Pot Pie, Fish n’ Chips and Shepherd’s Pie, as well as casual favourites like Mac n’ Cheese and Fish Tacos.
For those of you who love your pints, there are many beers to choose from, both on draft and by the bottle. (Both domestic and international) There is a unique wine menu and on Wednesday nights, guests receive 50% off bottles of wine!
Myself and two of my fabulous mom friends met here to sample some traditional English pub fare and we enjoyed a nice selection of dishes such as the Fried Pickles, Fish Tacos, Fish n’ Chips and the ‘Slum Dog,’ which is a panko crusted all beef dog, wrapped in garlic grilled naan with curried tomato sauce, caramelized onions, chopped cilantro and spiced yogurt. I chose the Slum Dog, and quite enjoyed the spicy flavours and curried sauce.
The desserts were of better quality than the mains and we were excited to dig our spoons into the Bailey’s Cheesecake, the Big Ben Brownie (it was huge!) and the Apple Berry Crisp. All of them were amazing and full of sinful flavours.
The restaurant’s floor manager was pleasant and very helpful when we had a slight disruption to our dining experience. (She had our mains re-created and freshly made when they had first come out colder than expected.)
This restaurant has an excellent everyday happy hour that is not to be missed. It runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and has all these amazing deals on beer, wine and drinks, as well as appetizers and extras. I have also heard some amazing things about the Sunday Brunch that runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
It’s time you tired mommas get out and enjoy a casual laidback dining experience with your closest mom friends, and for once, just once…. not talk about your kids. (I know it’s hard, but this is the time to dedicate yourselves to learning about each other and developing your friendships. Us moms need good friends in our lives for support and FUN!)
You can even treat your mom friends and buy them a few gift cards for a fun night out of laughter, storytelling, appys and drinks. Enjoy!
